Icon of Annunciation to Anne. 19th century

The plot of the Icon of Annunciation to Anne tells the story how the Angel informed Anna, mother of the Virgin, about the imminent birth of her Daughter named Mary, who would bless the whole mankind.
The holy righteous Joachim and Anne, the father and mother of the Virgin, had not have children until very old age. Spouses prayed fervently for giving them a child. One day, when Anne saw a nest with barely fledged chicks among the branches of a laurel tree, she tearfully prayed for giving her a baby, promising to bring a child to God as a gift. As soon as Saint Anne spoke the words of the vow, the Angel announced to her the fulfilment of the prayer. Delighted, Anne hurried to Jerusalem and told Joachim happy news at the Golden Gate, which is a symbol of the immaculate conception, and they happily embraced. The church calls Joachim and Anne the Ancestors of God, since they were the ancestors of Jesus Christ in the flesh.
