Holy Elijah the Prophet is one of the most revered Christian saints. He is revered in Judaism and Islam as well. He lived in the 9th century.
He is famous for numerous miracles connected with the denunciation of idolatry and the triumph of faith in the One God.
In the Slavic folk tradition, Elijah the Prophet is widely revered as the lord of the thunder, the fire element, as the patron of the harvest and fertility. According to the church tradition the Prophet is often depicted in a chariot of fire, on which he was taken alive to heaven for his holy life.
